A wide range of retail jobs will be available over the next year courtesy of bargain retailer Primark when the firm’s parent company, Associated British Foods (ABF), opens stores throughout Europe. In a statement released today (February 22nd), which revealed Christmas trading at Primark was at higher levels than expected, ABF said three stores are set to open in Spain and a further trio of shops will appear in England’s north-west during the second half of this financial year. The three British-based outlets have been earmarked for Chester, Bury and Blackburn.
Meanwhile, Primark has also agreed to acquire ten Bhs stores which, once refitted and rebranded, will be open to the British public in the next financial year.Primark’s retail position at the end of this month will see the firm operating from 196 stores and 6.1 million sq ft of selling space. “Since last year end we have opened five new stores - Cambridge and Wood Green in the UK, Frankfurt in Germany, Porto in Portugal and our first store in Belgium, in Liege,” ABF commented.Over the course of 2009, Primark picked up a number of industry awards such as MAPIC Retail Awards’ Retail Success Story of the Year and the GMTV High Street Fashion Awards’ Best Budget Store on the High Street. It looks set to go from strength to strength in the year ahead.
