Saturday, 17, April 2010
Whilst the emergence of Blu-ray onto the market has been far from dramatic, creeping sales and increasing popularity have been highlighted after figures from the British Video Association (BVA) revealed that 2010 had already out sold 2009. Revealing that in the first three months of the year 2.7 million Blu-ray discs were bought, outdoing the same period in 2009 by an increase of 50per cent, the BVA said that the HD discs seemed to finally gaining a stronghold with consumers.
With 15.6 Blu-ray discs now being sold in the UK since they were first launched in June 2006, the BVA’s marketing manager, Hannah Conduct, expressed her excitement that the format was gradually making an impact. “While it is fantastic to see such strong growth in market volumes in the run up to Easter, the performance of Blu-ray is especially impressive,” she said, adding “Growing sales show that the benefits of the format – higher picture quality, superior sound, and an ever-expanding range of titles – are better understood than ever before.
