Monday, 17, May 2010
The government will continue to engage in more interaction aimed at addressing the scarcity of pharmacists as well as intensifying sponsorship training of the local pharmacists including pursuing the establishment of the school of pharmacy at the University of Botswana. The Minister of Health, Dr John Seakgosing said this at the 2nd annual congress and general meeting of the Pharmaceuticals Society of Botswana in Gaborone last week.
The theme of Botswanas pharmaceutical industry is opportunities and challenges.Dr Seakgosing said it is worth noting that Botswana as a middle income country is faced with the challenge of having to compete with richer countries as a preferred destination for qualified and relevant health care workers.According to Dr Seakgosing, the Botswana government will continue to work with the Pharmaceuticals Society of Botswana (PSB) in order to unleash some of the potential that pharmacists have in contributing positively to the socio-economic development of the country.
