Venture Into Paper Industry, Bumi Entrepreneurs Told

Bumiputera entrepreneurs have been told to venture into the paper industry which, according to a Terengganu executive councillor, has a very big potential dan will give returns.State Rural, Entrepreneur and Cooperative Development Committee Chairman Datuk Mohamed Awang Tera said statistics issued by the International Trade and Industry Ministry showed the value of paper sales in the country had reached RM3.5 billion last year.According to the Malaysian Paper Merchants Association (MPMA), meanwhile, the market value of paper usage in the East Coast covering Pahang, Terengganu dan Kelantan in the same year was close to RM22 million, he said.
"So, let us look into how far our involvement in this lucrative market. Are Bumiputera entrepreneurs especially able to grab the potential opportunities?", he asked reporters after closing the Paper Industry Entrepreneurship Opportunities Seminar here on Tuesday.The market share of Bumiputera entrepreneurs and the cooperative sector presently had not even reached five per cent, Mohamed said.It showed that intensified efforts were needed to ensure Bumiputera entrepreneurs could enhance their share in the industry, he added.
