False claims made about Worcester News
Thursday, 24, June,2010
A NEWSPAPER company has been forced to apologise for making inaccurate claims about the Worcester News and its sister papers the Berrow’s Worcester Journal and the Evesham Journal. The Worcester Standard, owned by Bullivant Media, published an advertisement that claimed it had a higher circulation than “any other local newspaper”.The advertisement inaccurately compared the circulation of the free weekly Standard with the paid-for daily Worcester News and claimed the Worcester News was a weekly newspaper.
The advertisement also ignored the fact that Berrow’s Worcester Journal, a weekly free newspaper, has a higher circulation than the Standard.A second advertisement published in Bullivant’s Evesham Observer claimed its circulation was higher than the Evesham and Cotswold Journal. The advertisement used Bullivant’s internal figures and not official audited figures that show the Journal has a higher circulation.
