Hotel Industry NewsWork on latest Doha luxury hotel beginsThe groundbreaking event, for the latest hotel project to be launched in Doha, was held yesterday evening with officials attending a ceremony to mark the beginnings of the Regent Hotel, set to open in 2012.Owned by Sheikh Ghanem Bin Ali al-Thani, who already owns the Ramada Plaza Hotel Doha, the new hotel is to be branded and managed by Regent Hotels, part of the Rezidor Group.Ramada Plaza Hotel general manager, Gordon Mackenzie addressed the assembled guests, praising the vision of Sheikh Ghanem al-Thani for “recognising the needs of the hotel industry in Qatar.” He explained that the hotel will have 365 rooms, with different executive and other suites, as well as three restaurants and a dedicated jazz bar lounge.The Regent is set to be “a haven of sophistication,” he claimed, announcing that the scheduled opening will take place in some 30 months, following Ramadan in August of 2012.He also thanked the organisations involved in the project, including consultants, KEO International, and contractors, Ramco Trading and Contracting.
