New hotel could rise in Saginaw Township
Friday, 30, April 2010
A four-story, 100-room hotel could rise at Tittabawassee and Fashion Square, the first hotel in a decade in Saginaw County’s largest suburb.Plans show a Hampton Inn at the site at 2865 Tittabawassee — near the southeast corner of the Saginaw Township intersection — on the former home of Frank’s Nursery & Crafts behind Starbucks. The Saginaw Township Planning Commission will vote on plans for the hotel when they meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday. The location, now home to an empty building that housed River City Design Center, is close to Interstate 675 and borders a bustling commercial zone near Fashion Square Mall and dozens of businesses and restaurants.
If the project happens, it would arrive when the suburb anticipates thousands of players and visitors for the U.S. Bowling Congress Men’s State Bowling Tournament to come to Saginaw County every weekend between January to April 2011 and the 2012 Region II United States Youth Soccer Association Tournament at the Saginaw Township Soccer Complex.Combined, the two tournaments could pump $13 million into the county’s economy.Saginaw County Chamber of Commerce President Robert VanDeventer said tourism numbers are up slightly in the county, even as they have sunk in Michigan.
