Game makers to discuss changing industry
Thursday, 06, May, 2010
The high cost of making complex video games for consoles, the reluctance of investors to back anything but a triple-A title and the accelerated consumer hunger for small games for iPhones and social media websites are among the topics to be discussed at this year's Game Developers Conference Canada (GDC Canada), to be held Thursday and Friday at the Vancouver Convention Centre.
Last year's GDC event focused on big-budget console titles, but this year the focus will be on smaller titles for emerging markets, says Izora De Lillard, GDC Canada event director."This year many of the established studios and first-time publishers are grappling with the legal and business development strategies in making successful projects for the social, iPhone and digital distribution markets," says De Lillard. "This year we want to focus on these emerging markets."
