Gladiator sandals are a trend to avoid

By now you may have heard about one of the so-called hot, new trends for this summer — gladiator sandals. The former wardrobe staples of ancient Romans are now available at any local shoe store or big box department store.Unfortunately, Average Josephine believes this footwear should have been left in the past.Every few years the fashion industry tries to bring back something we all want to forget. Remember when the chunky heels from the 1970s returned in the 1990s? Or how about hip huggers? Average Josephine will never understand the appeal of these flashback trends.
Then there are some trends that are so hideous that you just know they will be back — like tight polyester trousers for men. Or clogs. Or most items from the last decade.Average Josephine was asked recently how women over 40 can wear gladiator sandals. The quick answer is: They can’t. As far as women under 40, they shouldn’t wear them either.Gladiator sandals make your feet look wide. In itself, that’s really not that bad. But they also make your legs look short. And they don’t “go” with anything (unless you like to rock a toga now and then).
