Company NewsVancouver company makes U.S. uniformsWhen the U.S. Olympic team chose the brand Polo Ralph Lauren for its uniforms, Darrell Kirk knew that his chance to shine had come again. And it couldn't have happened at a better time.Kirk, who lives in Seattle, is international sales manager for Vancouver-based Tamoda Apparel, which manufactures for Polo and other well known brands. It produced all the fleece garments for U.S. Olympic athletes as well as some of the outdoor raincoats for team sponsors. "The times have been very tough economically for me, especially this year," he said. "Almost all of our customers have gone overseas, so this order made a significant impact on me being able to pay my bills."In the 1990s, Kirk ran a small clothing factory located somewhere around what is now third base at Safeco Field. With just a handful of employees, he produced pieces for large companies such as Land's End. He still has a letter from the 1995 U.S. World Figure Skating Team thanking him for its workout pants.
