Support for Denman cable ferry proposal
Saturday, 24, April 2010
The idea of a fixed cable ferry replacing the existing Buckley Bay-Denman Island vessel is being supported by the local Area A advisory planning commissionThere has been some talk in the area that a cable system might have an effect on the aquaculture industry in Baynes Sound, or affect current ferry jobs. But after considering an application by B.C. Ferries to the province's integrated land management bureau for an expansion of its licence to allow the operation of such a service, the committee decided to back it.
Their view was reported to the regional district's electoral areas services committee on Monday. They had agreed that they "did not see any issues with the B.C. Ferries application and support the licence of occupation for the cable ferry." They added: "The Area A advisory planning commission found this expansion would provide benefits."
