Aviation Industry NewsOpik wants to stand up for aviation industryFORMER Lib Dem MP Lembit Opik has revealed he wants to become the voice of the aviation industry, and convince the business singled out as one of the largest contributors to global warming to embrace environmentalism.Mr Opik, who yesterday made his debut as a stand-up comedian in London, has held a pilot’s licence for 22 years.The 45-year-old former MP for Montgomeryshire said he hopes to become a spokesman for aviation and reconcile the industry to the green agenda. He said: “I want to go into the aviation world because I think they need a stronger voice.“They need to be represented more powerfully than they have been. I’d like to create an environmental agenda that’s owned and led by the aviation sector itself.”Mr Opik, who spoke for British Gliding in the House of Commons, said only “a regular gig at the Apollo” would convince him to become a full-time comedian.
