Industry associations are jockeying to be represented in the Motor Vehicle Industry Council, the policy-making body of the newly approved Motor Vehicle Development Program (MVDP).This developed as the Board of Investments (BoI), the administrator of the MVDP, will spearhead in the creation of the council. The council will be composed of 9 line agencies of the government to be represented by no less than the assistant secretary level plus four industry representatives to be appointed by the President upon the recommendation of the motor vehicle industry associations for a term of two years.
The jockeying for the industry representative positions came about as there are six auto industry associations. These are the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines Inc., Truck Manufacturers Association, Motorcycle Development Program Participants Association, Philippine Automotive Competitiveness Council Inc. and Motor Vehicle Parts Manufacturers Association of the Philippines. An industry source that each of these industry associations would press for a seat in the council to push their agenda.
