Auto Industry NewsAuto Makers Weigh In On EPA Disapproval ResolutionAuto makers say a proposal that would ax the administration's authority to regulate greenhouse gases would undo an agreement on national fuel economy standards, following a meeting earlier this month with House Democratic leadership staff.In a letter to lawmakers, the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers said they are concerned the proposals could cause them a regulatory headache.Several lawmakers have proposed canceling the Environmental Protection Agency's finding that greenhouse gases are a public danger. The finding is a trigger for regulation of emissions, and the EPA has said it would not only end its ability to regulate emissions from power plants, refiners and other major sources, but also automobiles.The EPA is set to finalize the new standard by the end of March.Lawmakers who opposed the proposals have been seeking backing from the auto industry in the political battle, especially after a number of influential Democrats drafted similar bills.
